The Technical Operations Manager provides administrative and support functions to Campus Technology. The primary function of this position is enterprise infrastructure administration and services as tier two escalation support for the Help Desk team. Additionally, the position will provide leadership to remaining Systems and Security Administers and the Telecommunications Technician. This position may require work outside of normal business hours to ensure business operations are not hindered.

Key Responsibilities:
  • General systems and security administration.
  • Research, recommend, implement and monitor security software solutions as appropriate.
  • Process account creation and security profiles including Active Directory and email.
  • Manage operating system and third-party software patch deployment and compliance of server and desktop systems.
  • Provide full software lifecycle support including research, deployment, maintenance and support of end user systems as assigned.
  • Manage virtual server environment maintenance and support.
  • Provide data storage, server and environmental backup and archive management.
  • Assist Help Desk technicians with incidents and assume ownership of requests requiring escalation.
  • Provide appropriate documentation and regular cross-training for back up personnel.
  • Ensure procedures are effectively documented and cross-training occurs within team.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to other members of the network and system administration team.
  • Complete special assignments/projects requested by the Campus Technology leadership, overseeing Operations, Security and Development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and specific to area of responsibility.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years of progressive job experience and supervisory experience required.
  • Successful completion of background check, MVR, and credit check may be required.
  • Provide end-user support for technology solutions.
  • Ability to confidently demonstrate software and technology solutions to Southwestern employees.
  • Research technology solutions for organizational goals.
  • Manage a small team of highly technical personnel.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • The following specialized computer skills are required: Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365 including Exchange Online, Microsoft DHCP, DNS and similar management.
  • Exhibit a humble, patient, and collaborative spirit in order to create a healthy and vibrant work culture for the Operations team.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and initiative.
  • Maintain regular on the job attendance and timeliness.
  • Posses ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Office Environment - May be required to reach above shoulder level for organizational tasks (e.g., retrieving files from upper shelves), bend, stoop, or reach to access lower or upper shelves.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and move about to the office to interact with other staff members.
  • Ability to use a computer and near-visual acuity in reading written documents and statistical data.
  • Exchanges information by telephone, computer, in writing and in person.
  • Ability to traverse campus for meetings and talk to groups while doing so.
  • Moderate Lifting - Occasionally transports 20-30lbs of parts and equipment across short distances by various means (e.g., carrying by hand, cart, golf cart) to accomplish tasks.
