Senior Founding Engineer

Gracely is a modern Church Management Software (ChMS) on a mission to equip churches with the tools they need to thrive. After a year of rapid growth, we’re at the critical juncture where a strong engineering team can be the difference between good and outstanding results. We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with a doer attitude, love of state of the art engineering practices, and the pragmatism required to deliberately break them when the need arises.
Gracely’s backed by Starttech Ventures, a venture builder with a track record of producing a couple of Greece’s most successful scaleups (the industry-leading Epignosis and Yodeck). * Note that the role is primarily on-site.
What You’ll Do
- Lead development across the full stack using Node.js, Vue.js, and AWS
- Address customer pains with technical solutions that are proportionate to the value alleviating them will generate
- Break these solutions into deliverable increments that fit the budget that Product sets
- Balance delivering non-scalable solutions to unproven problems w/ building robust, scalable, and performant solutions after we validate they’re worth solving
- Make architectural decisions and improve how we build software
- Improve performance, stability, and scalability
- Mentor junior engineers and support team growth
- Review code and raise the quality bar
- Contribute to documentation and internal processes
Mindset
- You believe that anything that doesn’t generate value is waste
- You prefer being given problems to solve and the freedom to address them however you view best within the constraints you’re given
- You hate exhaustive specs that leave no room for creativity
- You love your craft (e.g. a clean git history, naming conventions that make the code speak for itself, 0 bloat) but you’re prepared to break your own rules when it’s deliberate and justified
- You’re prepared to ship non-functional code for fake door tests and the like
- You’ll take a customer complaint about a subpar feature any time of the week over a perfect implementation that nobody uses
- You have extreme ownership mentality: nothing is somebody else’s problem
- You are customer obsessed
- You’re in it for the long term and you want to own a piece of the upside
Who You Are
- You have at least 2 years of experience at a product company that follows state of the art engineering practices or 4+ years total including 2+ years of leading a tech team at a more traditional or consulting business with robust engineering practices
- Experience with Node.js/Express
- Experience w/ at least one modern frontend framework (Vue preferred)
- Experience with SQL and No-SQL Databases
- Experience with REST APIs
- Experience with testing practices (unit, integration, e2e), CI/CD pipelines, and production monitoring — you've debugged issues in production and know how to prevent them.
- Ability to define technical architectures and challenge design decisions
- Experience deploying and monitoring applications in production
